Walking is the Best Exercise

 by: Marilyn Pokorney

Running, jogging, weight lifting, calesthenics.
These are

all good for keeping in shape but walking is still the most

simple, and effective, of all exercises to lose weight and

stay in shape and maintain good health.

Approximately 67 million Americans of all ages walk for

exercise regularly. Walking can be done with friends or

alone.
And it can be performed outside or inside.

Walking helps the metabolic system to control weight,

regulate blood sugar, and cholesterol levels. A brisk walk

burns up to 100 calories per mile.

Walking is an aerobic exercise meaning that it uses oxygen.

A brisk walk increases oxygen intake to the blood,

strengthens the heart, improves circulation and lowers blood

pressure.

For people with poor circulation in the arms and legs,

walking can help to increase the size and improve the

efficiency of the tiny blood vessels that supply blood to

the cells.

Walking slows development of all forms of arthritis,

degenerative joint disease, stops loss of bone mass in

osteoporosis, and tones the muscles.

Walking helps recovery from back pain.

For women walking reduces premenstrual and pain during

periods.

Regular walking also relieves and prevents constipation.

Psychologically, walking generates an overall feeling of

well-being because it produces endorphins, a natural

tranquilizer. This aids in relief of depression, anxiety,

and stress.

To get the most benefit from walking, 30 minutes of walking

must be done at a brisk pace without stopping.
Gradually

increase time to 40 to 60 minutes for each session.

Always stretch muscles and warm up before walking.

Wear walking or running shoes that fit snugly but not too

tight, support the arch and lift the heel slightly.
Replace

your walking shoes every 6 months or 600 miles, whichever

comes first.

In hot, cold and inclement weather consider getting a

treadmill for walking indoors.

Choosing Your Vacation Walking Shoes

Choosing Your Vacation Walking Shoes

 by: Peter Shannon

Carefully chosen walking shoes will make a world of difference on your vacation. Your feet are as unique as your personality so just any old shoes won't do.

Here are some tips to help you choose the right walking shoes for you.

Find an athletic store that has qualified people who can evaluate your walking gait. They can then point you toward a shoe that will match your style.

Your feet will swell on a walk. So pick a walking shoe that is about a size bigger than you usually would buy. Or, if possible, try on your shoes after a long walk.

Fit your shoes while wearing the same socks that you will be wearing on your vacation.

Consider the type of walking you will be doing. Hiking boots are good for poorly maintained trails, off trail or cross country hikes. But they are heavy and stiff. Stick with walking or running shoes for walks on paved or maintained trails.

Make...

Lightweight Backpacking

Lightweight Backpacking

 by: Steve Gillman

Lightweight backpacking or ultralight backpacking certainly enable you to travel more miles in a day. I can easily go farther in my running shoes, with my fifteen-pound pack on, than I could with heavy hiking boots and a forty-pound pack. That isn't all, though. Going light also means more comfort, more freedom and even more safety.

Disadvantages Of Traditional Backpacking

Less freedom. It isn't easy to take a side trip up that hill, just to see what's there. Do it without your pack, and you have to go back the same way to get your pack.

More tiring. It's clearly more tiring with a heavy pack, and you probably won't enjoy yourself as much when you are tired.

More Injuries. Blistered feet, sprained ankles, sore muscles, and back and knee problems are just some of the common consequences of too much weight on your back.

More hassle. Removing and putting on a heavy pack quickly becomes...

Golf As It Was

Golf- Don't Get Carried Away

You only need to watch golf for a few tournaments where the pros sweep the course to get the golf bug. Suddenly you decide you want to learn to play. How hard can it be right?

But you shall be in for shock. How hard can it be after all, all you do is put the ball on a small tee and hit in down the fairway. Simple! You might want to play around a bit before you go and spend loads of money on clubs and balls.

Anyone can learn to play golf and when someone does they generally enjoy it. The are learn to play centers everywhere now and for the most part it doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming considering you can hire a cart if you don't want to walk the course.

Beginners though usually have a tougher time than advanced golfers though because they have a harder time controlling the ball. Beginners spend more time walking the course and traversing across wooded...

Nail Fungus - No Need To Keep Living With The Infection

Nail Fungus
- No Need To Keep Living With The Infection

 by: Richard Clement

Nail disorders are rarely disabling or even painful. But they are a nuisance. One of the most common problems is toenail fungus (medical name onychomysosis)-about 15% of people have it, including nearly half of those over 70.

This infection has received a great deal of press and advertisement time, as there are finally therapies that actually successfully eradicate these infections.

A fast overview of the disease can really help us to get rid of it.

The body normally hosts a variety of microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi. Some of these are useful to the body. Others may multiply rapidly and form infections. Fungi can live on the dead tissues of the hair, nails, and outer skin layers. An infection of nail fungus (called-onychomycosis) occurs when fungi infect one or more of your nails. Onychomycosis usually begins as a white or yellow spot...
